Remember when going to a coffee shop was a thing? Fingers crossed that lovely ritual will return again soon.
But in the meantime and in the spirit of morning vibes have you ever noticed how people will mix up lunches and dinners without a second thought? Choosing Mexican or Chinese food on a whim. But it’s different with breakfasts. It’s my experience that most people are very specific about their morning beverages and the food they will eat.
And I am no exception. I have several options that I cycle through. At the moment I’m in an egg and toast period but this summer was an avocado toast phase. Sometimes in winter, I will go with Cream of Wheat or nothing. My husband is a peanut butter toast guy, consistently. Often when we invite people to overnight stays, that has a kitchen, we will plan lunches and dinners together but just tell everyone to bring whatever they want for breakfasts because people want what they want.
My food is fairly fixed but my beverages are in flux. My husband drinks Keurig coffee which basically makes me crazy. So much single-use plastic waste! I am determined to offset that by not using it. I usually have one cup of either pour-over or French press coffee. Both allow me to control how thick the coffee taste is. I’m more on the water/coffee side I’ve been told. Then I often follow with tea later in the morning. Too much caffeine can make me crazy, unlike my husband who usually has 2-3 cups each morning with another in the afternoon.
What are your morning rituals and are you willing to mix them up?
